Peel, tap, and start growing together.

Using the same tap technology as tap-to-pay, Canopy Pals pair with the Canopy iOS app to help you effortlessly log care and build a story for every plant in your collection.

  • The same tech as tap-to-pay.

Every Pal has a waterproof NFC tag inside, so any modern iPhone can read it with a tap.

  • Instant Log.

One tap opens the plant’s journal, right in the Canopy app.

  • No battery. No Bluetooth.

The tag gets what it needs from your phone when you tap, so there’s nothing to charge or pair.

Watch how the tag wakes the journal instantly.

Care starts at the pot.

Canopy Pals live with your plant, so the habit starts where the care already happens: at the pot. Tap when you water, add a photo when something changes, and build your journal over time.

Meet the Pals.

Each Canopy Pal has a waterproof NFC tag tucked inside. No battery, no charging, no pairing - just a little pal for your plant.

Notes from the Canopy.

I have eleven plants and I used to remember exactly zero of their watering schedules. Now I tap. That's it.

I like that it doesn't yell at me about streaks. My monstera doesn't care about streaks. It just wants water on Tuesdays.

Frequently Asked.

Getting started

No. You can use Canopy as a plant journal and care tracker without a Pal. You can add plants manually, log care, add photos, and start building your plant history right in the app.

Canopy Pals make the habit easier. Instead of opening the app, searching for the right plant, and remembering to log care later, you tap the Pal on the pot and jump straight to that plant. It turns care into a simple, physical ritual: see the plant, tap the Pal, log the moment.

Download the Canopy Plant Care iOS app, add your first plant, and tell us a little about where it lives. Canopy will identify your species, help you set up a plant profile, establish care windows, and start building a journal over time.

If you have a Canopy Pal, simply tap it with your iPhone to set up. Once linked, that Pal becomes your shortcut back to that plant’s care journal.

Canopy Pals

A Canopy Pal is a small smart tag that lives on your plant. Each Pal has a passive NFC chip inside, so you can tap it with your phone to open that plant in Canopy. Part plant buddy, part smart tag, each Pal gives your plant a little personality while making care easier to remember and easier to track.
Canopy Pals use NFC, the same kind of short-range technology behind tap-to-pay. The chip inside the Pal is passive, which means it does not need a battery, charging, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi to work. When you hold your iPhone near the Pal, your phone briefly powers the chip and opens the right plant in Canopy.
Yes. Canopy Pals do not contain electricity and are made out of laminated vinyl. They are designed to live alongside houseplants and handle normal plant care: watering, misting, soil, humidity, and everyday splashes. They are not designed to be fully submerged for long periods or scrubbed aggressively. Treat them like a durable plant accessory, not an aquarium tag.
Each Pal links to one plant at a time. To move it, remove its current plant from the app — the Pal is then free to pair with a new plant. Just tap it to set it up again, like new.
Canopy Pals are designed to work on common indoor plant pots. Stick your Pal somewhere easy to tap and easy to see. For best results, apply the Pal to a clean, dry, relatively smooth surface.

Canopy Plant Care app

Yes. When you add a plant, Canopy can help identify it from your photos. You can confirm the suggested match or search manually if you already know what it is. From there, Canopy helps you set up a care profile based on the plant, its environment, and your own routine.
Care windows are our alternative to rigid schedules and deadlines. Plants do not live on perfect 7-day schedules. Light, soil, season, pot size, humidity, and your own habits all matter. Canopy gives you a reasonable window for care, then helps you calibrate based on what your plant actually needs. The goal is to help you build better instincts to care for your plants.
Yes. Canopy lets you know when a plant is entering its care window and highlights which plants to prioritize as they approach their ideal care day.
You can log care moments like watering, fertilizing, pruning, and repotting, or just add photos and notes as you go. Over time, those moments become a living journal for each plant. That history is useful when something changes like a new leaf, yellowing, pests, root growth, seasonal shifts, or a plant that suddenly starts thriving.
The Canopy Assistant is an AI-powered plant care helper that can use context from your plant profile, care history, photos, environment, and goals. Instead of generic advice like “water less,” it can help you think through what has actually been happening with your plant and what to try next. It is not meant to replace you but help you grow your own care instincts. Every Canopy Pal comes with a limited number of Assistant credits so you can try it, and Canopy Plus unlocks ongoing access.

Canopy Plant Care is free to download, and the core experience is free to use. Add all the plants in your collection, log care, write notes, and build each plant’s journal. Free includes a limited photo allowance per plant.

Canopy Plus ($2.99/month) unlocks unlimited photos and Canopy Assistant. Every Canopy Pal also comes with a limited number of Assistant credits so you can try it first.

Canopy Plus is purchased through the App Store, so it’s billed to your Apple ID. You can manage or cancel anytime in your iPhone’s subscription settings.

Canopy runs on iPhone with iOS. Tap-to-open tech for Canopy Pals works on any iPhone that supports background NFC tag reading (iPhone XS and newer).

If you are an Android user, sign up here for email updates to stay connected on when we will launch on Android.

Your plants, photos, and care history belong to you. We don’t sell your data, and your Canopy Pals don’t track or store anything themselves, they only hold a tap destination. See our Privacy Policy for the full details.

Orders & shipping

We currently only ship within the United States and Canada. Please sign up here for email updates to stay connected for international shipping in the future.

Orders typically ship within a few business days. We do everything we can to expedite orders and get them out as soon as possible, but because we make our Canopy Pals by hand here in Seattle, orders may take a few additional days if we are experiencing high demand.

If something arrives damaged or isn’t right, email us at hello@canopyplantcare.com within 30 days of purchase and we’ll make it right. Because Canopy Pals are made by hand in small batches, we handle returns case by case.

Currently, we are selling Canopy Pals and other plant accessories locally in Seattle at the Fremont Sunday Market. Follow Canopy on Instagram for upcoming Seattle market dates, restocks, and new Pal drops.

Canopy Pals and the companion app are our primary product. At the farmer’s market, we offer potted plants with Canopy Pals already attached so you can see the full experience in action.

Product roadmap

Yes. We see Canopy Pals as collectible plant companions, not just one standard line of tags. Expect seasonal drops, new plant-inspired characters, artist series, and limited-edition designs over time. Follow us on Instagram to be the first to hear about these drops.

The Premium Pal is a future version we are exploring: a plant companion that lives in the soil and can gently signal with visual cues when a plant needs attention. It is still in development, so for now our standard Canopy Pal is the best way to start tapping, logging, and growing your plant journal today.
Yes! Canopy Pals make a great gift for plant people. Once gifted, the recipient can download Canopy and pair the Pal with their own plant, no subscription required.
